We present a study of climate change and its relation to currente explanations of the emergence of political complexity in early civilizations. The intereste in this relationship has grown considerably in recent decades due to the shared interest among complementary fields of study and availability of new information. In fact, the possibility of a scientific explanation of politogenesis is vital not only for the understanding of history, but also for enriching the currente debate on the emergence of governance institutions.
